CMS 110: Introduction to Online@UT
(instructor-led)
CMS 110: Introduction to Online@UT
Mon, Sept 8, 10:00-12:00 (KPB Training Room, 2309 Kingston Pike)
Thurs, Sept 11, 2:00-4:00 (KPB Training Room, 2309 Kingston Pike)
Tues, Nov 18, 1:00-3:00 (KPB Training Room, 2309 Kingston Pike)
Fri, Nov 21, 9:00-11:00 (KPB Training Room, 2309 Kingston Pike)
One way to increase interaction with and among students is to augment face-to-face lectures with more engaging activities such as self-paced tutorials, discussion forums, and live chats. Online@UT makes it easy to organize and post these materials online for students to access anytime from anywhere via the Web. In this introduction to Online@UT's course management system, participants will access their online course site, receive an overview of instructor development tools and resources, and learn to upload a variety of document types.
Either this workshop or CMS 110OL is required to obtain access to your Online@UT course site.
Only faculty, graduate teaching associates / assistants (GTAs), and staff with teaching responsibilities can be CMS-certified. GAs and other staff may take this workshop, but will not be entered into the certification database.
CMS 110: OL Introduction to Online@UT
(online section, enrollment required)
CMS 110: OL Introduction to Online@UT
(online section, enrollment required)
Registration open continuously
Participants in the self-paced, web-based version of CMS 110 will practice
the same skills as their peers in the instructor-led workshop: posting content,
creating online assessments, tracking grades, transferring documents, and
fostering eff ective electronic communication (e-mail, discussion boards, chats).
CMS 110 OL may be taken in lieu of the required three-hour CMS 110 workshop. However, in order to become a certified Online@UT user, online participants will be required to complete all assignments satisfactorily within one week of first gaining access to the course. Only faculty, graduate teaching associates / assistants (GTAs), and staff with teaching responsibilities can be CMS-certified. GAs and other staff may take this workshop, but will not be entered into the certification database.
Because CMS 110 OL is delivered completely online, we ask that only experienced computer users register for it. In order to complete the required tasks, you will be expected to:
- Work simultaneously in two browser windows
- Copy and paste text from a word processor (for example, Microsoft Word)
- Browse in your operating system (using, for example, Windows Explorer) to find a document stored on your computer
- Download files from the Internet and save them to your computer
If you are unfamiliar with these tasks, we ask that you instead register for CMS 110, the two-hour, face-to-face workshop.

Blogs and wikis are two Online@UT tools that may provide a solution for these teaching goals. In this workshop, participants will explore Online@UT blogs and wikis, configure these tools for different purposes, and discuss their instructional uses.

The SafeAssgn tool is integrated into Online@UT, and does not require additional software. Please join us to learn more about this new teaching and learning tool.

The Millennials are coming—R U Ready?
The Millennials are coming—R U Ready?
Tues, Oct 21, 10 a.m. - noon
(KPB Training Room, 2309 Kingston Pike)
Millennials (born between 1982 and the present) are storming the gates
of higher education. In addition to logistical and infrastructure challenges,
this group (a third larger than the Boomers) presents pedagogical challenges.
Connected, collaborative, and creative, they are used to having options in
everything. They’d rather participate than observe. They want to choose
what, when and how they learn, and they expect immediate feedback.
Come explore the characteristics, learning styles, and expectations of the
Millennial generation, and get a hands on introduction to the pedagogies
and technologies we can employ to create an optimal teaching and learning
environment for the NeXt generation of college students.
